Hi all, I am currently looking at moving my XBMC install from Windows to Linux and have been researching getting the VFD in my FIC Spectra case working. I found some conflicting info at the MythTV website saying the FIC Spectra uses a DM-140GINK (I managed to find an LCDProc driver for this one) but that isn't the VFD fitted. ![]() FIC drivers for recent FIC Mainboards. FIC 1stUtilities Motherboard list. Use the links from gizmo99's post on 28.02.09 the audio drivers are there. I eventually got xp media on mine (partitioned the 640gig HD into two, first partition 80gig for XP). I found some conflicting info at the MythTV website saying the FIC Spectra uses a DM-140GINK (I managed to find an LCDProc driver for this one) but that isn't the VFD fitted. The FIC Spectra uses a 7x1 Futaba TOSD-5711BB USB display and features icons for music, video,tv guide, record etc (handy for things like Myth, VDR etc.) I have the following info for the display - PID(0x7000) and VID(0x0547) Hex codes to drive the display; 00 8B 04 01 07 xx xx xx xx xx xx xx -> where xx are the ASCII codes of the seven characters to display? The display only supports Capital Letters 00 85 02 01 aa ss -> where aa is the code of the icon and ss is the state (00=off, 01=on) 00 85 02 02 a1 s1 a2 s2 -> a1 s1 = code and state of the first icon, a2 s2 = code and state of the second icon 00 85 02 nn a1 s1 a2 s2. Good to know I'm not the only one after support for this display;) Hopefully we can find someone with the skills to put together a basic driver to support it! -----Original Message----- From: Hiten Mistry [mailto:hitman at gmail.com] Sent: 11 January 2009 08:28 To: N.Sutton Cc: lcdproc at lists.omnipotent.net Subject: Re: [Lcdproc] FIC Spectra VFD Support [Scanned] [Spam score:8%] Just want to add another token of interest to this as I have a Media PC case that uses this display also, and it also happens to run XBMC on Linux (Kubuntu). Hi, I'm using a HD44780 display with the driver in 'winamp' mode. That works well for all ASCII-characters smaller or equal than 0x7F. But when I try to display a character that is located in range 0x80.0xFF or when I try to display an icon something goes completely wrong: Instead of the correct character two different ones are displayed, mainly starting with a 'A'. So all special characters the HD44780 supports and all custom icons can't be displayed. What could be the reason for this? Kind regards Michael. ![]() Dear All, If you are reading this you probably have one of the above HTPC's lovely machines that do a great job with the blending of an reasonably attractive chassis and enough power to do some content justice. I have upgraded mine to a abit f-I90HD core 2duo and its working a treat under vista media center However there is one problem and that is the front panel display. The version 1.4 and 1.7 drivers released by FIC and available here work well in XP but not well in vista with the dreaded device not accessable after sleep mode error and the click off utility needed to clear the errors ( please see green button or ebuyer for details ) well i would dearly love to use this pc ( before my girlfriend insists on going back to video) and know there is a solution as the Fujitsu Scaleo EV uses the same display and has an updated 2.4 driver that works with vista. The VFD controller ( tosd-5711bb) is made by Tiawan oasis using a Futaba controller but with elonex out for the count it seems unless we can convince a kind person to help let us try the 2.4 drivers we may be stuck forever. Please if anyone has access to the 2.4 drivers from the Fujitsu Scaleo please help. Then we can get frontview or lcdsmartie running and really make the most of the display All the best max.
